Sketchbook Doodles

Happy Holidays to all!  I hope everyone is doing well and had a very festive holiday season!

It's been an embarrassingly long time since I last posted on this blog.  I am alive and well and continue to love working for the Mouse.  Unfortunately I can't post any work-related projects, but I wanted to share what I've been doodling when I'm not working.

I spend most of my time happily drawing mice and ducks, but during my free time, my sketchbook has become even more valuable in giving me a chance to practice drawing and painting from observation.  I've also been playing around with new pens (for those interested, the Pentel Sign Pen is completely awesome).

And some doodles and mini paintings

I'm graduating from Ringling College this week and in preparation, I've been visiting my favorite spots in Sarasota to sketch, be with friends, and say bye to the town that has been my home for the past four years.

In addition, I'm very happy to share with everyone that I will be working at Disney Design Group as a character artist assistant intern.  I'm incredibly excited to work for the big mouse!

I wanted to thank everyone who visits this little blog and has been supporting me and my artistic dreams since the beginning.  I couldn't have made it this far without the support of my family and friends.  Thank you!

Recently I was part of the "Animystics" show put on by Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  I had the opportunity to illustrate my "spirit animal," which led me to drawing more bears!   The print is for sale through the gallery and some of the proceeds will go to the Animal Humane Society in Minneapolis.

You can check out my piece and other great pieces in the show at:   Light Grey Art Lab Shop

I also have my portfolio site up and running.  It's a simple blogger site, but it shows all the work I've been doing this past year:  arielsilverstein.com

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to Megacon in Orlando this past weekend!  It was my first time going to a con and I had so much fun meeting people.

If you didn't get a chance to go and are interested in seeing Ringling College's latest issue--as well as past issues-- of Meanwhile  you can check it out here: http://meanwhilecomics.com

I'm working on creating faster pieces for set and prop design.  It was fun to work in black and white. For my tree houses, I worked with ink before making small edits in Photoshop.  I like working digitally, but it was a nice change to pull out a pen and some paper and just doodle away.

Some recent pieces.  The color script, characters, and props all belong to the same "city" I started designing last semester.  It was fun to create a color script that brought all the pieces together.  Next up: working on more designs for my jungle animals and treehouse.

Happy New Year!

Thinking about making these guys promotional postcards.

An environment concept I've been working on.

And some characters.
